Alice Bucquet McCully's ancestors included members of the Easton, Taylor, Howard/Hayward, Shafter, and Bucquet families. Among these families were California settlers of the 1840s and 1850s. On Alice Bucquet McCully's paternal side are her great-grandfather, Charles Webb Howard of Oakland (president of the Spring Valley Water Company and owner of the large Shafter-Howard ranch at Point Reyes, Marin County), her paternal great-grandmother Emma Lovell (Shafter) Howard, and her great-great-grandfather Oscar Lovell Shafter (an attorney and California Supreme Court justice). On her maternal side are great-grandfather Edward Taylor (early landowner in San Mateo County) and great-grandmother Frances (Fannie) Bishop (Easton) Taylor (a sister of Ansel Easton of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company).
